Geography and statistics with context

Maps and county boundaries are sourced from U.S. Census Bureau geographic services. Selected county statistics draw on American Community Survey data, while interactive base maps may use OpenStreetMap tiles.

Geographic boundaries and statistical estimates have different update schedules. Our methodology explains how data is sourced and what to check before relying on a result.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Quick explanations to help you choose the right map or county lookup tool.

How do I find which county I live in?

Open the What County Am I In? tool. You can enter a full U.S. street address or choose to share your location with your browser’s permission.

Can one ZIP code cover more than one county?

Yes. ZIP codes are designed for mail delivery, not as county boundaries. Our ZIP-to-county tool helps explore these matches, but address-based geocoding is generally better when you need to identify a specific property’s county.

What is a county FIPS code?

It is a five-digit county geographic identifier: the first two digits refer to the state and the final three to the county or county-equivalent. Look up codes using our County FIPS tool.

Is this an official government website?

No. County Map Pro is an independent reference website. For legal boundaries, property records, taxes, voting, or emergency-service decisions, verify information with the relevant official agency.
